The Fish Factory Sessions
Then and Now was recorded in 2015 by Andy Cleyndert at the Fish Factory, north London.
The band with Allison Neale, Jeremy Brown and Stu Butterfield was formed in 2014 and by the time of recording Colin Oxley was playing on about half our gigs. The inspiration was two recordings which highlighted the special musical relationship of Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond: Blues in Time and Two of a Mind, and we chose Two of a Mind as our band name.
Then and Now was recorded in 2015 by Andy Cleyndert at the Fish Factory, north London.
The band with Allison Neale, Jeremy Brown and Stu Butterfield was formed in 2014 and by the time of recording Colin Oxley was playing on about half our gigs. The inspiration was two recordings which highlighted the special musical relationship of Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond: Blues in Time and Two of a Mind, and we chose Two of a Mind as our band name.
The first gigs by the band drew on the repertoire from those two records, but by the time we entered the studio we were mixing in our own material. ‘Stand Still’ and ‘Fall Out’, which Gerry and Paul played on Blues in Time, didn’t get onto our CD, but both are strong Gerry Mulligan compositions which have rarely been recorded, so I hope you enjoy hearing our take on them.
‘Indian Summer’ and ‘Then and Now’, are alternate takes of tunes which appear on Then and Now. ‘Easy Living’ and ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ are also alternate takes, but were never mixed or mastered so the sound is a little different and you can hear Allison count in ‘The Way You Look Tonight’.
